Different Types of Diesel Tank Level Sensors

A level sensor is used on diesel tanks to provide an accurate level measurement of the amount of diesel fuel present in a tank. Numerous devices that consume diesel fuel, including cars, generators, and other machinery, can employ these sensors.

Diesel tank level sensors come in a variety of designs, including:

  • Submersible Level Sensors which is the recommended choice. They are very reliable and require no programming.  Submersible tank level sensors simply sit at the bottom of the tank and measure the head pressure of the diesel or DEF fluid.
  • Float-based sensors, which employ a float to give a signal indicating the liquid level as it rises and falls in response to the level of the diesel fuel.
  • Ultrasonic level sensors employ sound waves to gauge the diesel fuel’s distance from the surface and determine the liquid level.
  • Radio waves are used by radar-based sensors to detect the diesel fuel’s distance from the surface and determine the liquid level.

Conductivity-based level sensors use the diesel fuel’s conductivity to calculate the liquid level.
Fuel gauges, fuel management systems, or alarms that sound when the diesel fuel level is low are just a few of the devices that may be linked to diesel tank level sensors.

To guarantee precise and trustworthy level measurement, it’s critical to select the appropriate sensor for the application. To preserve accuracy over time, it’s also crucial to calibrate the sensor on a regular basis.

To make sure that the fuel is being kept properly and securely, it’s crucial to routinely check tanks for leaks, corrosion, and other problems in addition to keeping an eye on the quantity of diesel fuel.
